Andreas Döring, PhD
Applied Scientist | Computer Vision | Human Pose Estimation and Tracking | Generative AI

My name is Andreas Döring, and I am an applied AI scientist and engineer based in Cologne, Germany. My work bridges machine learning research and practical, real-world applications, with a deep focus on computer vision, generative AI, and intelligent systems that learn from and interact with the world visually.
I hold a Bachelor of Science in Informatics and a Master of Science in Computer Science from the University of Bonn, where I specialized in computer vision, machine learning, and 2D human pose estimation. I pursued my PhD under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Jürgen Gall at the University of Bonn, focusing on multi-person pose tracking in videos. My research spanned object detection, tracking, human pose estimation, person search, and person re-identification. I published several papers in this area and created PoseTrack21, a richly annotated benchmark dataset for human pose tracking.
After completing my doctorate, I joined verce GmbH as an AI Engineer, where I led the in-house AI team and focused on generative image AI. My work centered around prototyping with cutting-edge diffusion models such as Stable Diffusion (1.5, XL, 3.0) and Flux. I developed scalable training and evaluation pipelines, optimized training on limited GPU hardware, and set up internal tooling and infrastructure.
What drives me
I am passionate about the latest developments in machine learning, especially where research meets application. I am deeply fascinated by the intersection of perception and generation, how machines understand and create visual content. I continuously explore new ideas, often translating recent papers into functional prototypes, and I thrive in environments where creativity, autonomy, and engineering excellence converge to solve ambitious problems.
What I am looking for
I am seeking a hybrid role in the Cologne-Bonn region or a fully remote opportunity within Germany. I am particularly interested in positions that lie at the intersection of prototyping and research, where innovation, technical depth, and practical relevance come together.
If you are working at the forefront of AI and want to build systems that matter or discuss latest research, I would love to connect.
